How Images Affect Page Speed
For your page to load quickly you may need to compress the images on your page. A quick loading page improves your the overall user experience.
Slow loading pages can hurt your site. You could be missing out on sales and visitors because people won’t wait for slow pages to load.
Images that are large and of high quality take up a lot of disk space and increase the time it takes for a web page to load. With image compression tools you can reduce the size of an image without reducing a noticeable quality in the image.
When it comes to images it’s all about image resolution. Resolution is the measurement of how many dpi (Dots Per Inch.) A Higher resolution equals a larger file size and clear image. A lower resolution equals a smaller file size with images, with reduced clarity for images.
The Resolution on screens is 72 DPI, which is a verily low resolution, a decent resolution for printing is 600-1200. What you see on the screen is a lower resolution, which means unless your intent is to have your images printed, you can safely compress them to enhance page speed.
